Inaugural Seattle Startup Drinks

{ March 27th, 2008 }

It’s Thursday afternoon.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to IM - e-mail - twitter - or just send this post to your drinking buddies.

That is, your drinking buddies with a startup problem.

By decree, this Friday around 8pm we’ll gather at Dad Watson’s and let the games begin.

So, comment inside this post. We need:

  • A bodycount
  • Ideas for locations.

I’ll keep this updated as both start rolling in.

Update #1

I called the recommend places and inquired about space / connectivity / booze selection. In all, I think McMenamins: Dad Watson’s is a win.

  • Where? McMenamin’s: Dad Watson’s
    3601 Fremont Ave. N.
  • When? Friday, March 28th at 8pm
  • If I get lost? My cell is 206-229-9142

For those at SWS, this place is right across the street from Adobe.

What was the place where we hung out after Startup Weekend? There at 8pm?

    Cassie

Consider this my RSVP. :-) I may bring a friend or two.

    Clearly I’ll be there.

The People’s Pub and the Prost! Tavern have been recommended as great locations too.

Brouwer’s was the official hangout of SWS1, but it can get really crowded at peak times.

I’m for something a bit more mellow.

And, of course, I’ll bring my man. :)

I’m interested. Just need to know where. Thanks.

Sounds fun, we’ll be there. That pub Cassie suggested sounded ideal for this…

Woot! I’ll be there in rare form.

Dad Watsons has wifi and good food plus all the booze we need.

As Jim Ray and I discovered when we seceeded from Startup Weekend, Dad Watson’s in Fremont has wifi as well as fairly tasty pub food and beer.

    I’ll try my best to be there. But it’ll be easier if you guys hold it at Paddy Coynes Pub (it’s right under my apartment. ^_^;

Sounds like a good time. I’m in.

The place after SWS was Browers, and that is always fun. I am in wherever it goes.

    Evan

Browers sounds good to me. I’m going to try and swing by.

I think Brauers is the best place all things considered… However, there will have been two other startup friendly events at the Mcleod Residence in Belltown this week, so why not make it a third?

    Kimm

Gah! I’m expecting company tomorrow evening! We’ll raise a homebrew for you all though and I’ll be at the Top Pot Monday evening.

    Scott Robinson

Adam, what are the other two? (Links?)

  17. 17
    Nathan Kaiser

Hey guys. Have a great time. We will be out of town this weekend and unable to make it. Looking forward to the next one though!

I agree with Lindsay that Brouwer’s can get very busy. Last month on a Friday night my bot and I had nowhere to sit… and there are decidedly more than two of us who will be showing up tomorrow night :)

Is there a place near Brouwer’s so if we show up and it’s packed we can migrate?

Do any bars around here take reservations?

There’s one place up by Matt & Lindsay’s that seemed pretty roomy/good for conversation but I can’t for the life of me remember the name. It’s right on a corner. I had fish and chips and an okay stout… there are two areas, one ~2′ higher than the other. Help? If I figure it out I’ll post another comment.

This may have been the least-helpful comment I’ve ever left. Sigh.

Sounds good, I’ll come if its in downtown.

The shindig seems like it needs more redheads - I’m in!

    Cassie

I originally suggested Brouwers (http://www.yelp.com/biz/brouwers-cafe-seattle), but I agree it can get busy on weekends.

I’d love to checkout Mcleod Residence as well (http://www.yelp.com/biz/mcleod-residence-seattle), been meaning to get over there, but I’m not sure how big it is .

    Cassie

    PS >
To reply to Marina, there’s a ton of places in Fremont. We might consider Norm’s, The Red Door, Nectar, or George & Dragon.

Plus, if we’re in Fremont, I can crawl home if need be. ;-)

  23. 23
    Lindsay

I think Marina is talking about Murphy’s in Wallingford. Or possibly Tangletown Pub. Either one of those is great by me and FAR more promising (as far as space goes) than Brouwers…

  24. 24
    Evan

So, all in all, it sounds like we are going to Browers, unless it is too busy, then we would just go to another in fremont…

  25. 25
    Cal

I don’t really have a preference as I haven’t been to any of these locations before, but I would like to know where it’s going to be at. At this point, I’m gonna assume Browers at 8PM based on what Evan has said and some of the previous posts.

If whoever runs this page could update the post w/ the final decision, that would be fantastic.

  26. 26
    William

I’m there. Something not loud and not immediately in downtown would rock.

Will be coming, checking via Twitter for updates re: location.

    Cassie

I probably won’t be there until about 9:30pm, where ever we end up meeting.

Tangletown Pub would be a perfect spot, it is more roomy than other suggestions. If we go with them though, we should call ahead and warn them.

I second the motion for an executive decision. :-)

    Scott Robinson

    Executive decision made.

    Cassie

    Dad Watson’s FTW!

  31. 31
    Jason M Burrows

At my friend Cassie’s request, I’ll be joining in on the fun as well, and bringing my gal Montine. =)

I hear Dad Watson’s is the spot. Do we need someone to call for reservations?

  32. 32
    Nick Finck

Ok it looks like I may be a bit late if I can make it at all. How late does everyone plan on being at Dad Watson’s? past 9 or 10?

  33. 33
    Scott Robinson

I plan on being there until midnight-ish.

  34. 34
    Cassie

I plan on having fun and staying late. :-)

  35. 35
    Andrew Hyde

    See everyone at 8pm!

Does anyone know what the power outlet situation looks like? If I’m going to be there for a long time, I’m certain I’ll run out of juice. I might have to spend time actually talking to people!

  37. 37
    Nick Finck

I dont think there are a lot of outlets. Try to sit in one of the booths around the perimeter of the place, better odds there. I am guessing this is going to be a large group and we’ll probably need to push together tables in the middle.

  38. 38
    Adam

    I’ll be there… but later.

  39. 39
    Nick Finck

    on my way now…

Looks like I am going to miss this one, but I will make it to the next one!

I’m new to the scene and don’t have much to offer but my presence, but I’ll be there.

    New post, more drinks!
